Aged Care Jobs Grow as Industry Booms

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Positive growth in the aged care sector shows that an aged care career is a career with a future. The recent IBIS World report on Australia’s aged care residential services industry shows the industry is set to boom – in fact, it is expected to generate over $20 billion in revenue this financial year.

The aged care residential services industry includes facilities that provide long-term accommodation or support to older residents, such as aged-care facilities and retirement villages.

At Royal College, we equip students of all ages and backgrounds with qualifications in aged care and disability support, offering certificate and advanced diploma options. In Australia, there are now plenty of choices for those requiring aged care, catering to unique needs and desires. Our courses are designed to ensure graduates have the skills to work across these diverse areas – including working in personal care, disability support, management, community care and more.

Other encouraging discoveries in the IBIS World report show that there are now almost 225,000 people employed in aged care, by more than 1800 businesses. This has been reinforced by annual aged care industry growth rising by an excellent annualised rate of 5.1 per cent.

Australia’s aged care industry growth can be attributed to the country’s ageing population.

Today more than 7.8% of the Australian population is aged 65 and over, meaning that there is an increased need for facilities and support for this group.

The good news for those considering joining the aged care industry in Australia is that careers can be incredibly fulfilling. As an aged care worker, your role is to improve the quality of life for those in your care, helping them with practical tasks as well as emotional support. For many, this provides rewards above and beyond salary.

So, if you’re seeking a new career, or a career change, in a thriving industry that’s also exciting and rewarding – studying aged care at Royal College may be your best way forward.
