More aged care jobs as industry booms

According to the 2019 IBIS World Australian Market Research Report on aged care services, the demand for age-appropriate accommodation, assistance and care is set to rise. While the aged care industry currently employs over 256,000 people, plenty more aged care jobs are expected to open up over the next few years, following the 4.9% industry annual growth between 2014 and 2019.

Recent data from SEEK Group shows there are currently 3,344 job ads on SEEK looking for Aged Care Support Workers. Plus, the expected aged care job national growth over the next five years is 39.3%!

Much of the reason Australia’s aged care industry continues to grow is because of the country’s ageing population. More than 7.8% of the Australian population is aged 65 and over, meaning that there is an increased need for facilities and support for this group. Statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicate that our ageing population can be attributed to Australians having fewer children and our increasing life expectancy. Services catering to our ageing communities come in various forms, such as home care, residential care or a range of other community care services.
